Before beginning this one about life with little Alfie, I chose to open up about infertility through 'Journey in the Waiting' (link). There are lots of different reasons I have chosen to write both, so I thought I'd explain why. These are the top five reasons I thought of:-
1. Writing as a hobby - I have always loved to write and find pure joy and excitement in buying a new journal or notebook for doing such things! It is always a great idea - detailing, archiving and organising my thoughts, happenings and events to look back on in years to come - in theory! - because if you are like me, you know that these notebooks only get half filled due to the writing waning - work schedules, family responsibilities, church commitments and simply lack of motivation, can all prevent those extra blank pages being filled with memories, until we find the 'drive' within us to get back to writing things down again..... only to have the strong urge to purchase a new journal in order to do so - call it a fresh start! (And of course, you ALWAYS need that new pen too!)
2. Blogging is a live journal, where you take or leave as many 'pages' as you like. Jason and I have been through a lot over the past few years and for me personally, I found it great therapy setting up Journey in the Waiting and allowing others into our lives just that little bit more, hoping that my words would encourage and help others as it went on. There were many friends and family that offered to accompany me on that journey and it was also a way of helping them to see things from my perspective, when so often I couldn't explain during conversations with them......
3. Monopolising Facebook - I'm always conscious of not putting too many pictures of Alfie on Facebook, mainly because I'm so scared about forgetting how difficult it was seeing tons and tons of photo uploads and 'announcements' there during my years grappling with infertility. I know if I start, I'll get completely carried away!!!! But I do get asked to show pictures of him growing so this to me, feels like a good way to go about it. I can share my new posts on FB through links - if people choose to come here, that's great! But people can also choose NOT to come here as well and that is fine too.....
4. Connecting with Others! - I hardly ever buy magazines these days. If we decide to put a film on after Alfie goes to bed, I tend to open up the laptop and while away the hours reading other peoples blogs. It's great when I find someone like-minded..... rejoicing, struggling and supporting each other through lifes ups and downs! 'Journey in the Waiting' has logged readers from all over the globe!
5. Alfie - I want him to see how we recorded the first year of his life. There simply won't be enough time to blog about everything, but if I can tell him through pictures about something we did together at least once a month, then I've succeeded! Hopefully, he will enjoy looking at it one day and laugh at his little ways, the way we do.....
